February is National Children's Dental Health Month

National Children's Dental Health Month began in 1941 with a one-day event and became a month-long celebration in 1981.  American students miss 51 million hours of school each year because of oral health problems and 50% of children are affected by tooth decay by the age of 5.  In an effort to help alleviate this, Dr. Chris and Dr. Ryan will be visiting classrooms during the month of February to help educate our young people!  Parents can help by following the 2-2-2 Rule - brush for 2 minutes, 2 times a day and visit your dentist 2 times a year.

SAME-DAY CROWNS are NOW AVAILABLE! NO temporary crowns and NO waiting for weeks to get your permanent crown! How is this possible ? We have a chair-side CAD/CAM system capable of scanning in the mouth, from an impression or from a model.  A specialized laser is used to scan the preparation, creating a 3-D virtual model compatible with the neighboring and opposing teeth.  Our Doctors have the flexibility to manipulate the virtual tooth to make it unique, custom fit, just right for your mouth ! Real diamond burs, under constant water spray, fabricate the final crown from porcelain.  The glazing is the final touch and produces a flawless, smooth finish on the crown. COME ON IN TO SEE THIS EXCITING SYSTEM- we will be happy to show it to you!

Dentists & hygienists play a critical role in the discovery of oral cancer!  The Velscope, a device we have been using at The Hartland Smilemakers for a few years now, works on the concept of florescence.  When exposed to Velscope's special high-intensity light, normal cells will "get excited" and floresce back, but cells that have undergone changes on a molecular level will not, revealing dark shadows in the scope.  The Velscope cannot diagnose cancer; however, it can alert the dentist or hygienist to suspicious situations and allow them to make appropriate recommendations.  Velscope is a very safe, painless, inexpensive ($9.00) procedure that allows us to see potential areas of concern that might not be seen with the naked eye.
